The Encyclopedia Galactica was ostensibly published and updated by the Encyclopedia Foundation following its establishment on Terminus. Excerpts from the Encyclopedia often feature before a story in Asimov's Foundation Series. These excerpts are used to give the reader background information, and often tease readers about what happens in the story.
